New features alert for Conversational Finance

September 20, 2024

Conversational Finance adds key capabilities for the CFO’s office with support for finance jargon and enhanced follow-up questions.

These features directly meet the needs we’ve seen inside of a CFO office, to access data  from a system of record quickly, with the same language they would use with a coworker.

A company operates on jargon - information specific to it - which can exist in the form of acronyms, insider info or unique terms reserved for only those “in the know.” These can be the names of business units, nick names for products, the names of a formula or common shorthand like YoY or QoQ.

To best serve the CFO’s office, we have added the ability for users to add their company’s jargon. This provides a method for companies to work in their language with generative AI models on top of their financial system of record.

You can see the interpretation of “fixed costs” based on the jargon of the financial institution.
Jargon can even perform on subjective terms, like “underachievement” and provide a comprehensive answer. In this case, “underachievement” was replaced with“revenues decreased more than 50 percent…”

For example, should someone want to ask about a specific business sector, such as a specific region or a specific product line, all the parameters of that business can be predefined and provided within a single, simple query.

But even more complex answers can be gained from simple questions. For example, if we ask for ARPC, average revenue per customer, the formula is already known to the system and the calculation is performed on the fly to accurately respond to the user’s question. Today, this is a multi-step process to break out the appropriate data then run the formula, whileConversational Finance can do all the work in response to a simple question.

Follow-up questions

In this release, we also made generally available  follow-up questions. This means users can select “follow-up” under the question they just asked and ask a question that adds to their previous query.

The ability to ask follow-up questions helps drill into atopic, compare various products or revenues, and understand the changes overtime to the business. The user doesn’t need to restate the original question each time which mirrors the typical behavior of co-workers in conversation on a particular topic. This information is provided in a few simple lines and builds on the capabilities of Conversational Finance.
